The last reason is actually more common than you might think. Regardless of the reason for staying at a hotel the person checking in needs somewhere to sleep.   In general, people have various experiences of sleeping in hotels. Some hotel stays you sleep extremely well, it is quiet, a comfortable bed, new fresh bedding, blinds that make the room completely dark, good indoor climate, no laundry or dishes in sight that reminds you of all the things you have to/should do in your normal “at home life” and a nice hotel breakfast the day after. While some hotels stays might have been the worst nights, in regards to sleeping experience, in your life. Sleep is vitally important – it is how we recharge! Usually when sleeping in a hotel, it is extra important that you are well-rested the day after. Who wants to go to an important business meeting with only 2 hours of so-so sleep the night before, or feeling tired on your vacation (that you spent a lot of money on) because you did not get enough sleep. This means that is it very important for hotels to enable a good sleep environment. We list 3 very important factors for creating a good sleep environment. 1.      Darkness – In some parts of the world during parts of the year it is important to have blackout curtains or very good blinds to make the room dark. Who wants to wake up at 04:00am because the sun is shining in the eyes? Not many of us. A dark sleep environment in general helps promoting a better sleep. 2.      Indoor climate – Falling asleep in a room that is too cold or too warm could be a real challenge. Optimal temperature for sleeping is often said to be around 18-20 °C, but of course this is very individual. Therefore, many hotels have room controls for you to be able to adjust the temperature to your liking. But it is not only the temperature that decides if the indoor climate is good, it also needs to be draught free and have the right humidity levels. Experience draught can actually cause muscle and neck issues and cause eye irritation. And since hotel room sizes are usually quite small, a poor indoor climate will increase bad experiences of the indoor climate. These are a few reasons why hotels invest in a good indoor climate! 3.      It needs to be quiet – Trying to fall asleep with an annoying background noise could be impossible. Hearing your hotel guest neighbor or a noisy fan might ruin your night of sleep. Therefore, it is important for hotels to reduce all possible noises. Fans and some climate systems are a common source for loud consistent noise levels. Again, another reason for hotels to invest in good and quiet indoor climate products.
