Swegon Service: Toby's Journey from UK&I to North America

A few months ago, as one of Swegon UK&I's service engineers, I began my secondment to Swegon North America, which showcased to me the experiences available within a global company. My secondment has served as an opportunity to share and develop my knowledge internationally. In this blog, I share my experiences working as a service technician within the North American team.

The opportunity of the secondment was motivated by my passion for travel and the prospect of learning new skills within my role. Alongside assisting clients and representatives, my responsibilities included diagnosing and resolving issues with Swegon products alongside taking the time to understand different operational systems, which allowed me to broaden my knowledge base whilst sharing insights from the UK team.

My secondment to the North American team presented me with an array of new learning opportunities. My encounters with different technologies like the two-stage VRF coil has helped expanded my skill set, and has offered new perspectives that I intend to bring back to the UK upon my return.

Participating in different projects, such as a rotary heat exchanger repair in Cleveland, Ohio, has helped broaden my technical expertise and has given me a great insight into the collaboration that takes place amongst the team members on site.

With the support of my manager Henry, the smaller size of the North American service team has challenged me to become versatile, which has definitely helped improve my problem-solving capabilities.

For me, this experience hasn't just been about professional development. My journey to North America has seen me build lifelong friendships and has given me the opportunity to experience the local culture, from sporting events to live music, which has allowed me to spend time with my new team and appreciate how welcoming and friendly they are!

Sharing Expertise and Learning

Opportunities within a global company like Swegon are incredibly important. My time in North America was not just about personal growth, but it was a platform to share my skills and product knowledge, which has helped contribute to the development of the North American service team. The experience has also presented a unique chance to bring back new ideas and knowledge, which I hope will benefit the UK team upon my return.

My secondment has served as an example of Swegon's commitment to the development of its employees. Experiences like mine help enable a collaborative environment where global knowledge sharing is key to our collective successes.

It is clear that Swegon stand by their commitment to developing their team's skills, and I hope to see them continue to foster a diverse and dynamic workforce that I am proud to be a part of!
