Today the international golf tournament Scandinavian Mixed kicks off. It is the world's first gender equal golf tournament where 78 men and 78 women compete against each other, on the same golf course in the same competition for the first time ever in the world. Swegon is proud to be sponsor of a tournament that breaks new grounds for gender equality.
Hosts for the competition are Annika Sörenstam and Henrik Stenson, two of the best golf players in the world. They hope that the competition will attract more young people to the sport and make golf grow around Europe. The gender aspect is something that the organizers are very proud of and that they hope will inspire other sports to follow.
- When we presented the idea of a gender equal competition for the European Tour organizers, the response was immediately positive. The reason we chose Sweden as the first country for the competition was because Sweden is one of the most equal countries in the world, says Claes Nilsson, CEO of We do Sports, the organizers of Scandinavian Mixed.
Swegon entered early as a partner as gender equality is one of three focus areas in Swegon’s sustainability strategy.
- The construction industry is one of the least equal industries in Sweden. We want to be part of the change towards gender equality in our industry. To actively support initiatives such as Scandinavian Mixed therefore feels absolutely right and we hope to bring attention to this topic which means the beginning of a positive development, says Andreas Örje Wellstam, CEO of Swegon Group.
