On September 2, in the presence of the Swegon Group Executive Team, the newly built and expanded production facility in Heppenheim was officially inaugurated. By bringing together expertise and state-of-the-art manufacturing at this site, Swegon is further strengthening its already well-established climate ceilings business in Europe. The investment supports our ambition to be the leading partner for indoor climate solutions, while reinforcing the manufacturing base in Germany.
“Our network of production sites and the active exchange of knowledge between them help us develop a geographically wide-reaching system, but where each site has a strong local presence. Customers benefit from shared strengths and local relevance,” says Andreas Örje Wellstam, CEO of the Swegon Group.
The newly built, cutting-edge extension of the production site in Heppenheim replaces the former location in St. Leon-Rot. Manufacturing previously spread over 9,000 m² at the two sites (St. Leon-Rot and Heppenheim), but has through careful planning, been brought together in a compact 7,000 m² facility with optimised workflows, a new shuttle racking system and modern infrastructure.
Heppenheim will produce climate ceiling solutions primarily for office and commercial buildings, educational institutions and the healthcare sector, serving both new builds and refurbishments.
Joining know-how while keeping local customer focus
A key objective was to unite the production know-how of both teams in one location. Colleagues at both previous sites have built up valuable expertise over many years, knowledge that is fully retained today. The new site consolidates manufacturing competencies, while local customer relationships remain with the local market teams across Europe. They continue to provide on-the-ground engineering, sales and service support, just like before.
“This is a clear signal to the market, our customers and employees. We are strengthening our role as a manufacturer and solutions provider. Our core markets in Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland will benefit, as will new markets we are entering. We see new opportunities to shape the climate ceiling industry,” says Nina Li, Business Unit Director Climate Ceilings.
Integration completed
As part of this restructuring, the integration of the Barcol-Air and Zent-Frenger brands into Swegon Klimadecken GmbH has been completed. This is another important step towards a clear set-up in the German market. Outside of Germany, the Barcol-Air brand will continue to be represented.
Growth with vision
The expanded Heppenheim site is more than a logistical improvement - it is a strong commitment to Germany as a production base and to the region. By investing in modern technology, sustainable systems and long-term capacity, Swegon has created a future-ready foundation for continued growth. Existing jobs have been secured, and additional positions are planned, an explicit decision in favour of quality, efficiency and continuity.
More capacity, shorter lead times
“By concentrating manufacturing in Heppenheim, we have created a centre of expertise and production designed for efficiency and speed. Production will be more flexible, customer-specific adaptations can be implemented faster and delivery times further reduced. Together with other Swegon sites, we can leverage group synergies to the benefit of local markets,” says Stefan Steckel, Head of Operations and Procurement at the Heppenheim site.
Swegon’s modular climate ceilings product portfolio ranges from active ceiling panels to specialised bespoke solutions for building-system integration. These solutions meet a wide variety of requirements: they ensure high comfort and contribute to sustainability with options such as building-mass activation, where the building structure is integrated into the overall thermal concept to dissipate heat loads, reducing operating costs and CO₂ emissions.
Sustainability considered from the outset
The new production hall was built to the latest standards: highly insulated, with a green roof, modern LED lighting and highly efficient climate ceiling solutions. Among other measures, high-capacity modules ensure a stable and comfortable indoor climate all year round.
To provide heating and cooling, an additional Swegon heat pump with 60 kW capacity has been installed alongside two existing units. The new unit uses the environmentally friendly refrigerant R290 (propane). The heat pumps supply a buffer tank with intelligent switching between heating and cooling modes, and continuous energy monitoring ensures transparent control of consumption. The site’s electricity demand is covered 100% by green power. Altogether, these measures make a significant contribution to meeting Swegon’s SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) commitments.
